WWW.CITISCAPES.COM | 23 “They may talk to them on a weekly basis, but obviously they don’t see each other face to face because this associate may live in Bentonville and the other one in Miami, Florida, but they’ve worked together on countless calls. They get to match a name with a face and have a little reunion and it brings it full circle,” Aston said. “We interact with the associates a lot at the home office, and so it’s nice to have them visit and put names to faces. It connects us all together.” On Friday, June 7, the week will culminate in a huge celebration at Bud Walton Arena on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Walmart’s executive team will give the crowd a report on the past year’s business and will share how the company is investing in its people and communities, as well as showcasing new innovations and technologies, Aston said. Every year the crowd is kept guessing as to who the celebrity host and special entertainment will be for the Friday event. Details are kept top secret until the moment they are presented onstage. Last year actor Jamie Foxx hosted, with singer Carly Rae Jepsen performing her hits, “I Really Like You” and “Call Me Maybe.” Cassadee Pope, winner of the The Voice television show singing competition, and singer Jason Derulo entertained the crowd. In previous years, entertainment has included such heavyweights as Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Mary J. Blige, Will Smith, Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise and Reese Witherspoon. Shareholder voting on proxy proposals will take place at a formal shareholders’ business meeting on Wednesday, June 5, held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Rogers. Any shareholder is eligible to vote. All attendees must show proof of ownership and photo identification to be admitted to both the Wednesday and Friday events. ■ Livestream of Friday’s events can be found at www.corporate.walmart.com/ newsroom/events and a live blog of the week’s activities will be posted at www.news.walmart.com.
