10 | CITISCAPES | DECEMBER 2018 One of my family’s holiday traditions is to watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation a night or two before Christmas. And, when I say “my family,” I mean my whole family — my husband, kids, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews — the whole gang. A few years ago, my husband commented, “We do that every year.” To which I responded, “Yes, my dear, it’s called a ‘tradition.’” For the record, I have offered him an alternative activity – such as going to another room and watching a movie of his choice, all by himself. He declines every time and joins in for the family activity. That’s the thing about traditions, the good ones are like habits. It often seems weird and maybe even a little incomplete if certain ones aren’t checked off the list. At CitiScapes, one of our most anticipated traditions is celebrating the Best Of Northwest Arkansas winners each December. From contacting the winners to selecting the cover image, this festive time of year just wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t have this opportunity to reveal the area’s best people, places, events, food and fun! Congratulations to this year’s award recipients, and thank you to all of you who voted. The area is growing, so it makes sense that the number of votes continues to increase – and it’s exciting to see that you, our readers, really are dedicated to your favorites! Beginning on page 51, you’ll find the results. As you have come to expect, seasonal inspiration, highlights and articles on really amazing people surround the Best Of section! This issue is filled with great reads from cover to cover – such as the profile on Dr. Becky Paneitz, founder of Inseitz Group, a business that focuses on women, education and leadership, page 28; and the recipe section featuring three incredible local female chefs and their favorite holiday dishes, page 114. If reviewing the Best Of winners and all that’s happening in the Northwest Arkansas community has become one of your traditions, we know you’re going to enjoy this issue. From all of us at CitiScapes, we wish you the very best this holiday season, and in the words of Clark Griswold, the “hap- hap- happiest Christmas”!
