120 | CITISCAPES | DECEMBER 2018 glass of red wine, mug of winter ale or whiskey on the rocks – all excellent choices for staying warm from the inside out this December. However, if you’re feeling spirited this holiday season, Brandon Rostek, bar manager at Theo’s in Fayetteville, has created a fancy little cocktail that is as delicious as it is festive. “I let the season inspire me for this cocktail,” Rostek says. “It started with the sweet, tart flavor of Fair Goji Liqueur. The flavors are reminiscent of cranberry and pomegranates, but this particular liqueur has such a unique flavor profile – it’s perfect to serve at holiday parties or with Christmas dinner. “I wanted the drink to have some savory boldness, as well. So, I chose the Laws Secale Straight Rye Whiskey as the base – it pulls in just the right notes of earth and spice. To wrap this cold-weather cocktail up, I included egg whites to give the drink a great texture, and the New England Spiced Cranberry bitters tie all of the flavors together with notes of mulling spices and vanilla.” There’s just something especially enjoyable about a cocktail designed specifically for the colder months – and the “Holiday Spice” does not disappoint. Shake it up yourself, or slip into Theo’s and order the professional version. Either way, you’ll have a lively cocktail to enjoy. Cheers!
